Christening Cake (With Bow)

This was a christening cake made for a friend of mine.  It is a caramel mud cake covered in caramel butter cream, and then with fondant icing.  All of the decorations including the bow are made of fondant icing.  The letters were really difficult.....I made heaps of them that I threw away. There must be a trick to making these....:-)  All the letters are hand painted using edible silver paint.  The bow was made by moulding fondant icing strips around cardboard tubes.  The strips themselves were made using a special cutting roller that ensured that all strips were exactly the same width.  I thought the bow would be difficult to make but it actually turned out to be the easiest......my first bow....pretty happy with the result.

Brontosaurus Birthday Cake

I made this cake for my son Daniel for his 10th birthday.....he wanted a T-Rex but he had to settle for the brontosaurus.  The cake is a chocolate mud cake covered in fondant icing.  The brontosaurus is LCM bars that have been shaped into a dinosaur shape then covered in two layers of fondant icing.  The green board is a simple cardboard board that has been covered in fondant icing. There is cake wire all throughout the dinosaur to hold it together (plenty of wire!!).

One Direction Cake

Harry Styles

I made this cake for a friend of ours who is a mad One direction fan.  The cake is a chocolate mud cake covered in chocolate ganache.  All the decorations are made of fondant icing.  The hair on the five faces was made by passing fondant icing through my spaghetti maker (will try piping icing next time).  The little hearts at the base of the cake form a ring right around it.....I bought these pre-made. The eyes are also made of fondant with edible ink used to draw the eye pupils.....you can draw the entire eye using ink (maybe next time).  The eyebrows, nose and mouth are also drawn on using edible ink

Movember Cupcakes

Yes it's only a month until our men put away their shaving gear and cultivate fabulous Mo's to raise money for prostate cancer research and men's depression initiatives.......yes it's Movember.
Don't forget to support your Mo Bro's in this fantastic cause.  My husband is growing a Mo for the sixth year in a row and I have to say the end result doesn't look that bad.  I made some simple chocolate Movember cupcakes with fondant icing Mo's for my husbands birthday......I had a Mo cookie cutter that my husband obtained from Movember in 2011.....I finally got to use it.

1st Communion Cake v2

I racked my brain trying to decide what I was going to do for my sons first communion cake.  I wanted it to be something really special.  After making a communion cake for my friend (see my earlier post in November 2011), I wanted to do something in 3D.  So I came up with a simple design comprising of a fondant covered mud cake, with the three main communion symbols....... the bread, the wine (ie, grapes) and the communion wafers.  The bread is just a large piece of fondant icing coloured and shaped to look like a loaf of bread.  The grapes are small fondant balls.  The chalice is actually a ceramic egg cup that is covered with fondant icing and painted with gold edible paint.  The communion wafers are fondant icing cut with a small cutter and imprinted with a cross. I was really really happy with how it turned out.

70th Birthday Cake

A special request from a work colleague who I have know for a long time.  A simple chocolate mud cake covered in fondant icing, and decorated with small fondant icing flowers / decorations.  She loved it.

Rammstein Cake

I had a request from a heavy metal fan to make a cake linked to his favourite band Rammstein!  A simple chocolate mud cake covered in fondant icing.  The Rammstein band logo is on the top and the flames / skull  wrapped around the side are inspired by their live concerts.  Simple.....but it was a real "head banging" hit!

Bapstism / 1st Birthday Cake

A friend of mine was having a combined baptism / 1st birthday for her beautiful daughter so I had a chance to make a "2 in 1" cake.....:-).  The little blocks were actually LCM bars cut into squares and covered in fondant icing.  The little butterflies were cut out of fondant icing using a cutter and then folded in half and left to harden, after which I could place them on the cake without worrying about the wings "drooping".  The butterfly antennae were made of little wires that had tiny crystals on the ends.....I just cut them to size (they were not edible).

Soccer Ball Cake v2

With the success of my first soccer ball cake, I had a request to make another smaller version.  This time I bought a smaller set of tins that I used to make the two halves of the ball which I then joined together using butter cream icing.  The shapes on the cake are fondant icing. It was very hard to get the shapes to match.  The little soccer star for whom the cake was for loved it.....so I was happy.

Susie And Craigs Wedding Cake

My first post in a while, but I think it's worth the wait.  My sister was married recently and I was able to make her wedding cake for her.  I was very happy with the outcome and my sister loved it.

I made an engagement cake for my sister Susie and her fiance Craig.  Something simple.....it came out really nice.  Don't they make a lovely couple.

Brighton Sea Scouts Christmas Sailing Camp Cake 2011

I made a sailing cake for the Brighton Sea Scouts Christmas camp held in Mansfield (Lake Nilachootie).  A cute little boat with a mainsail and jib.  I had to make the two color sail by cutting strips of fondant icing and joining them together.  On the side of the cake there are the four points of the compass....N, S, E, W (a bit hard to see them).  The kids loved it.
